Invitation for a Lecture

Invitation for a Lecture for the Royal Dutch Institute of Engineers (KIVI) RENEWABLE ENERGY & CHEMICALS FROM BIOMASS By Paul O’Connor Despite recent critical stories about biomass as a source of energy, the conversion of biomass remains a potentially attractive way to produce, in a sustainable and environmentally acceptable way, fuels, energy and chemicals. So called second generation processes, that do not compete with the food production, are being developed around the world and many are presently being implemented. Mr. Paul O’Connor will highlight BIOeCON’s three technologies, the stories behind the innovative breakthroughs, and will explain how they were achieved in record short time and at low cost. These technologies are currently being scaled up for commercial implementation in the near future. BCC, Biomass Catalytic Cracking, derived from the well-known catalytic cracking process used for already many years in oil refineries, produces fuels and chemical feedstocks. BIOeCON envisions exploring solar energy conversion into biomass (via algae) or directly into liquid fuels (Solar-to-Fuel). The presentation will be in English.
