March 09, 2011

KiOR Inc. today announced it signed an agreement with Hunt Refining company to purchase fuel produced at the company’s plant in Columbus.

KiOR, based in Texas, is building the first of three facilities in the state that use wood chips to create gasoline.

The agreement also develops a relationship for the companies to find the best uses for the product.

“Today’s announcement is an important milestone for the development of our commercial facilities in Mississippi, and furthers KiOR’s progress towards the commercialization of gasoline and diesel blendstocks from renewable crude,” said Fred Cannon, president and CEO of KiOR, said in a statement.

“We’re excited to be working alongside KiOR to help make a meaningful and near-term contribution to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and providing a boost to rural economies,” Shanmuk Sharma, president of Hunt Refining Co., said in a news release.

Hunt Refining, based in Tuscaloosa, was founded in 1946 by legendry oilman H. L. Hunt.
